Hello.

Tried searching the sub for similar questions and most were about refunds being lower than expected, with one post two years ago about a higher than expected refund. I don’t think those answers apply to this past tax year with all the new changes.

Went with TaxFreeUSA this year to file (previously used TurboTax) and the calculated refund for us to receive was just over $1000. MFJ, no state income tax, one W-2, one 1099 (with quarterly estimated tax paid by due dates), no dependents.

Just noticed we got our refund and it’s over $1000 higher than what was calculated. It was just deposited yesterday and haven’t received any documentation as to the discrepancy.

Any thoughts on what may have happened? Are we likely to get documentation on why?

I’m leaning more towards this was an overpayment error and worried about fees and/or interest charges that may come along with needing to repay the overpayment. We have no problem paying what we owe, just don’t want additional due to no fault of our own.

Any insight is appreciated!
