Ever since we got that chapter which hints at Imu and Joyboy being friends at one point I've begun wondering if the story is showing us a cycle of 3 friends each destined for greatness who each go down different paths. The Pirate King, The King of the world and the Failed King.

The Pirate King: Joyboy/Luffy - Average born man who dreams of the seas.

The King of Rebellion: Imu/Sabo - Noble born man who dreams of Rebellion

The Failed King: Davy/Ace - Pirate Born man who dreams of the world, killed by those who oppress it.
