I just wanted to give a few updates since my last post about endurance cycling, and fueling while on the shot. Well, first, it wasn’t the shot that made me sick 3 weeks ago, I had Norovirus from dirty people not washing their hands after a 💩 then going to the salad bar… wash ya hands people!!!
I didn’t do the shot the following week either because my stomach was still icky from the NV.
Yesterday I rode in the 5 boro bike tour in NYC, which is a 40 mile ride through all 5 boroughs. I used liquid carbs w/electrolytes (tailwind). I was also able to eat during the ride, I stuck to mostly fruit (oranges, and bananas), chips (for salt) and Pickle Juice. I did find that the electrolytes that came in the tailwind were not enough as I started cramping around mile 25/30, so I doubled up on them at a rest area, and it really helped.
Thank you to everyone who suggested altering my shot schedule to make it as far away from the ride as possible, I really appreciated it! I did my shot today.
I have a 63 mile ride in June, so now I know I will be a little better prepared for this one.
I did the ride in a little under 4 hours, which was about an hour longer than last year, but It was the first time back in the bike since I got sick, and it was very windy, with busts of 25 mph winds!
