Where are the big machines in this?
Anytime that I talk or have listened to conversations or read conversations about the apocalypse, I see very little information about where heavy machinery falls in. And that doesn’t necessarily mean something like giant dump trucks, excavators, and humongous bulldozers even things as simple as skid steers, forklifts, logging machinery, and those previously mentioned are rarely touched on when facing transportation within an apocalypse scenario. Most people come up with the logical thinking of” well what about fuel and maintenance?” which can be valid for a lot of average people. However, I’m assuming most people will have a small group, typically 4 to 5 people at most unless you’re intending to build practically a small militia, and possibly adding some variety in your team skills could be very useful. Developing your personal skills would also be useful for example having someone who knows their way around a diesel engine and having the ability to weld or even understand basic fabrication on vehicles could be very useful. With the amount of vehicles that would most likely be abandoned, there would be a lot of spare steel parts, batteries and fuel still in these tanks that would be useful thus turning something like a skid steer into a small tank would not be a hard task with the right knowledge and a couple of people. I’m just curious if anyone else has this line of thinking because it seems like I’m always the one who brings it up in apocalypse or STHF conversations.
