I think Cali, Colombia is not dangerous for the average tourist. Am I wrong?
I just spent 3 days in Cali, Colombia and this was my 3rd time. I spent 2 weeks there in early 2022 and another month there shortly after.
If you’re the average tourist booking your accommodations through Airbnb, booking dot com, etc. and you pick a well reviewed listing then there’s almost a 100% chance you’re going to be in a nice safe neighborhood.
Cali isn’t packed with attractions by any means, but the few spots tourist will visit are all in safe areas. Heck, the best viewpoints (Christo Rey & tres cruces) are completely outside of population centers.
Many people say Cali is dangerous and it probably is for the average person living in working class or poor neighborhoods. But the average tourist would never be near these areas, they wouldn’t be staying there or have any reason to go there.
Perhaps you might get your phone 17 plus pro max snatched out your hand if you’re walking in a packed area like La fortuna (which is a high foot traffic commercial district with cheap merchandise). But this is a crime of opportunity, which happens everywhere in the world.
Cali is a little run down in term of infrastructure & there’s not much to do compared to the other major Colombia cities but it’s not dangerous for tourists. In fact I’d even say it’s more tranquil than Medellin, you never will have people constantly trying to sell you stuff in Cali.
