If we get to Almanzo...

I want him to be the stoic sweetheart who balances Laura's exuberance.

I don't remember Walton Goggins portal from "Beyond the Prairie" other than not being impressed by the entire adaptation. And while Dean Butler seems like the kindest person ever in interviews who loves the historical figure, his character is a hot headed ass.

I saw an interview where Butler lamented the lack of intimacy coordinators in the '70's and how he felt terrible that he was Melissa Gilbert's first kiss. It's 2026, so I'd like to think when we introduce Almanzo, Alice Halsey will be in her late teens/early 20's, and will be able to assert herself more around scenes with him.

Given the age gap, the same slow build in the books is needed, and possible use Cap Garland as a love interest red herring (because Cap is awesome). Season 1 made really good use of incorporating the Big Woods with Laura's storytelling, so I imagine Farmer Boy could be adapted in the cute walks home from church when Laura and Almanzo talk. I want them to keep in the delightfully awkward scene where Almanzo places his arm around Laura's shoulders and she jostles the buggy and whip, spooking the horses. Preteen me hated it, but adult me thinks it's awesome.

Any ideas? What would you like to see?

As a book fan looking into the other adaptations...

Does anyone have a favorite screen adaptation?

I adored the books as a kid and am rereading them now after finishing the Netflix series. I remember not liking the '70's version as it deviated too much from the text and Almanzo seems way too hot headed and outgoing (where's my stoic courteous farmer?).

I found "Beyond the Prairie" to be too dramatic and inaccurate for a miniseries claiming to be the "true story." The 2005 miniseries, from what I remember, was really book accurate with beautiful cinematography. The Netflix series, to me, is hitting an interesting sweet spot of the warmth and drama of the books, with a respectful portrayal of the Osage, and the aging up and inaccuracies are forgiven because, dang, it's a good story. (And I need those "Sunday best fancy, absolutely no sun protection" bonnets).

I haven't watched the anime yet, but it looks adorable. And don't get me wrong, I'll probably watch the '70's series in the wait for Season 2 of the Netflix series.
