Unsuccessful Training Program Peads
I am an Intern and was really hoping that I might get a RCH JRMO position for next year…. but I haven’t.
I feel like I had a competitive application - I’ve done an paediatric internship rotation, I had two paediatric consultant referees from that rotation, I’m studying the DCH, I thought I went ok in the interview (even though a lot of the questions felt very subjective).
I’m not sure if there was something missing from my application? Or is it just a lack of clinical experience that makes me less competitive compared to others? I have heard of interns getting on to the program, so I thought I had a reasonable chance.
But now I’m feeling incredibly flat. This year to put it bluntly, has sucked. Paeds was the only rotation that felt like a glimmer of hope for me, and I dread having to reconcile with going back to more adult rotations next year, only to potentially apply, and not get in again.
I know this is part of the job and I’m sure many of you feel you have had much higher mountains to climb.
How did you keep going? It feels like a daily battle of me trying to reconcile whether this has all been worth it, and whether I’ll ever be cut out for the job and desirable enough to get on to paeds.
