Somebody please help me defeat this bastard and enter the DLC!

I was a Ween fan before I was a Beatles fan. They are, by quite a margin, my two favorite bands of all time. Listening to both a few days ago (admittedly, stoned out of my mind), I realised there are quite a few parallels between the two.

Now let me preface this by saying I'm not comparing the scope of cultural impact or relevance of Ween to them boys from Liverpool. That would be disingenuous. I am saying that a lot of things I enjoy about both bands overlap.

They both have very distinct periods. The Beatles obviously have their Hamburg / early period, psychedelic period and their post-psychedelic period. Ween also have their psychedelics-infused brown period and later period. Songs from both periods can sound like they're from completely different bands, like with the Beatles. They're also very album oriented, especially in their respective later periods.

They're also both very musically diverse. Ween can have a heartbreaker like 'I don't want it' next to 'The Fucked Jam'. Just like the Beatles can have 'Octopus's Garden' next to 'I Want You'. They both seem to treat genres as toys to play with, rather than identities. Both their music are filled with humor right next to beauty. They're weird, but sincere and artful. Both bands are also incredibly melodic.

The Beatles are of course known for their experimentation and for being the first band to use the studio as an instrument rather than just a place to record their instruments. Ween is also like that. Their first few albums are nothing but esotheric experimentation (still great stuff, in my opinion).

These are just a few of the parallels I thought of. I guess, to me, Ween and Beatles are the best bands there have ever been. This is just my opinion though. I'm very curious and interested to hear if you guys like Ween and what you think of my comparison.
