African penguins at Boulders Beach, Simon's Town

Cape Point lighthouse above the False Bay coast, South Africa

The old lighthouse sits high above Cape Point in Table Mountain National Park. The viewpoint is exposed, so wind and cloud can change the feel of the visit quickly. This photograph is from the Cape Peninsula.

African penguins at Boulders Beach, Simon's Town, South Africa

For visitors planning a South Africa holiday, Boulders is easiest early in the day before the main tour buses arrive. The boardwalk protects the colony, so stay on the marked paths and allow time for the quieter coastal views around Simon's Town rather than treating it as a quick photo stop. I work with a local Simon's Town hospitality team, and this is one of our approved area photographs.

[OC] A clear False Bay morning at Fisherman's Beach, Simon's Town, South Africa

False Bay can look completely different from one hour to the next. On clear mornings the sheltered coves around Simon's Town are often calm before the wind strengthens later in the day. This is Fisherman's Beach, a small local beach south of the town centre and close to the Boulders coastline.

What has changed at Boulders Beach and Cape Point in 2026 that visitors should know?

I help guests in Simon's Town plan their Cape Peninsula days, and I want to make sure the practical advice I give is current. I am connected to a local guesthouse, so that is the perspective behind the question. This is not a booking post and I am not sharing any links.

The recurring problems I see are visitors allowing too little time, arriving at Boulders during the busiest part of the day, assuming Chapman's Peak will always be open, and forgetting that Cape Point has a last-entry time.

For anyone who has visited recently, have you noticed meaningful 2026 changes to parking, road works, gate timing, ticketing, queues, or the best order for Boulders and Cape Point? First-hand practical observations would be especially useful.
