How can I improve the BG and contrast?
This is my latest painting and I am unsure how to fix the BG- for me it feels a bit... flat?
I tried to push the values between foreground, subject and background more with some added light and colour adjustments- but the mermaid still sticks out like slapped ontop :/
I used the same brushes for BG and mermaid.
Some progress shots I included so maybe you can pinpoint sth in my process that's the issue
