Family tension, dark secrets, & mourning

One of my favorite albums is Watershed by Opeth and I have always wanted to find a novel that explores similar themes. The tone would be dark, gloomy, gothic, and tense. The family members lives would be interrupted and they would feel compelled to spend time with people they have their own deep reasons for avoiding outside events that affect the whole family. Time period doesn’t really matter. Setting only matters to an extent, but a sense of isolation from normal life and those outside the family would be appreciated. I would like to find recommendations in which the family home and the tension feel like legitimate characters within the narrative.

Lesser known trails around Pullman

I’m a transplant from Western Washington and I am looking for trails around Pullman that are maybe lesser known, inconspicuous, or seem like they are on private land but aren’t. I recently discovered the WSU Arboretum trail and Magpie Forest, neither of which have ever been recommended to me, and neither showed up on general web searches for trails around Pullman.

I live in ApartmentLand and have a bike and a car, but I’m really trying to find areas actually in or around Pullman so I can just get out for a nice walk. I especially would love to find areas with trees. I really miss the coastal forests.
