Sequel makes the original innovation commonplace

Avatar: Metalbending was invented by Toph Beifong in Avatar: The Last Airbender after she was able to sense the particles within the metal that she could bend. Decades later by the time of The Legend of Korra, the technique was commonplace, where there was an entire faction of metalbenders. Notably the Republic City Police used Metalbending with cables to restrain criminals and grapple around.

Also Avatar: Lightningbending was rare in A:TLA with only the main few firebenders being shown to do it, but by A:TLOK it's common enough for generating electricity to be a 9-5 job. Part of this is because the technique is derived from Waterbending stances and ideologies, so after Aang saves the world in the original series, the different nations start sharing their cultures, allowing for Firebenders to learn Lightningbending more widely.

Mistborn: Mistborn's first Era establishes the magic systems, which are genetic. People have their powers derived from metal, with each metal having a different type of effect. The first magic system is Allomancy, which allows users to consume metal and 'burn' it to gain its powers. The other system is Feruchemy, which allows users to store their own energy into metal to draw from at a later stage (a common example is storing your health, leaving you sickly while depositing your health into Gold bands, but when you later tap into your reserves you get regenerative powers).

Due to the actions of the antagonist, Allomancy is rare, and Feruchemy is all but extinct, however 300 years later in "Era 2", they have both resurged. Additionally, you have Twinborn who can use Allomancy and Feruchemy together in unique ways. The main character, Wax, can Allomantically burn Steel, allowing him to push metal away, and can use Iron bracers to Feruchemically store away his weight. Using the two allows him to become much lighter and push on metal beneath him to launch off the ground and land like a feather, or drain his reserves to become heavier and push large metal structures. You also have Compounders such as Miles Hundredlives who has Gold for both Allomancy and Feruchemy, allowing him to burn his consumed gold and store health away using that, without having to drain himself.

How to Train Your Dragon: The first film had Hiccup learn to trust dragons and ride them. In order to save the day, he taught the other Vikings How to Train Their Dragons. Thus, sequel media had all of Berk (and even beyond) living in harmony with dragons and using them in day to day life.
