What films first showed you that the rules could be broken?

What films first showed you that the rules could be broken?

So I was listening to an episode of The Big Picture the other day & Network came up, and it was described by one of the panelists as one of the first films they saw that showed them you could “break the rules” of cinema. And so I’m wondering what those films were like for yall: what did you see that made you sit up and ask “wait, you can DO that”?; what made you see the movies in a new way?

My answer is very route one: Eraserhead. On the wave of a horror kick I found my way to Lynch and it ended up knocking me sideways — and definitely doing a lot to shape my taste in horror & experimental film

I’m sure this kind of question comes up a lot so forgive me for being the metaphorical stuck record here!

But I’ve been thinking for a while about an e-ink tablet for note taking (something where that’s its core/sole focus as well, rather than also being an e-reader etc), basically to centralise the ways in which I take notes for work & creative projects so that it’s easier for me to have like a catalogue of things so I can search through them easily.

And I guess with that use case in mind I was wondering if, of the many eink tablets out there, remarkable is the best one with my use case in mind? Also, if there are easy ways to move notes from the device itself to a computer that would be great so I can move things around if I need immediate access while eg writing something!

Thanks so much
