I Finally Get The Criticism…

Sometimes I feel that this sub can be a little harsh on Ricky. Nevertheless, this morning I came across his Facebook stories, and for the first time, I fully understood.

Below are the eight clips in his story:

  1. A story about how Ricky will be honoured with the Jane Goodall award as he has long spoken out about animal welfare, earning praise from his supporters (who all appreciate his efforts).
  2. Ricky sat in front of his awards, discussing the fact that he is no longer afraid of getting cancelled.
  3. An AI-generated news story (I checked - neither the publication nor the article exist) about how Afterlife is the single most-watched British comedy in the whole wide world.
  4. Another story about how Ricky will be honoured with the Jane Goodall award. This one mentions that he is a vegan.
  5. A video that discusses how many millions Ricky has donated to animal charities. It also highlights how important it is that he’s used his platform for this purpose, and it ends with a quote of Ricky’s, portraying him as an almost Jesus-like figure.
  6. An image of Ricky in Afterlife, alongside two seemingly made up quotes about how great the show is at dealing with grief and humour simultaneously. Stood beside ‘Tony’? A sex worker and a nun.
  7. Ricky in front of his awards again. This time, he’s answering a question from a “fan”. The question? “Ricky. What would you do to improve the state of the world?”.
  8. Ricky in front of his awards again. This time, he’s speaking about his new show, with a caption: “Alleycats will be like The Office and Extras”.

But you know what? He doesn’t do it so we turn round and go, ‘thank you Ricky, for the charity work. Thank you for the wisdom, thank you for the laughs’. He does it so one day, someone will go: ‘there goes Ricky Gervais… I must remember to thank him’.
