Enemy Concept: Mimic
Description
Don’t trust them.
Alt
There’s an imposter among us. ඞ
Appearance
^(Non-Mimicking state)
If mimic is not mimicking anyone, they appear like a red flesh-like entity. It runs on all fours whenever it is aggravated.
^(Mimicking state)
If the mimic is mimicking someone, they will wear the player's avatar of whom it killed, or the avatar it spawned in.
Spawn behavior
Mimic spawns on a random location on the map.
There’s a few forms the Mimic can spawn in:
- Mimic will spawn in its non-mimicking form.
- Mimic will spawn as the avatar of any in-round user's friend on their friend list.
- If its a solo or duo game, Mimic will have a higher chance to spawn as a friend on the solo player’s friend’s list.
- There’s a slight chance Mimic can spawn in as an avatar of one of the devs
Behavior
Mimic will get the same effects of some of the upgrades players have bought, such as double jump. This should be integrated with the pathfinding.
^(Non-Mimicking state)
Mimic has a few behaviors in this state:
- It has a wide detection range; aggro's onto and chases any players it sees.
- It runs on all fours, alternating between long arms and legs, it is slightly faster than the current in-round speed of players.
- In a non-aggro'd state it follows paths, but it is capable of more-advanced jumps/pathfinding whenever its chasing someone.
- Whenever Mimic is not aggro'd and gets close to a corpse (whether it’s one it just killed, or if the player was killed by another entity), Mimic will play an animation where it crawls into the corpse. Afterwards, its behavior switches to mimicking state.
^(Mimicking state)
Mimic has altered behaviors in this state:
- Its detection range is halved.
- It walks like regular players and follows paths, collecting gifts; Jumps over/avoids tripmines. It switches between walking and running whenever it does not try to make any jumps.
- Mimic collects regular gifts, these DO count towards the total. 2. Mimic does collect golden gifts during the collapse, but these aren’t added to the total.
- Mimic will chase players in its mimicking form, and works similarly to the chase described in the non-mimicking state.
- If the Mimic is aggro'd long enough, it will dispose of the corpse and chase the player with the slight boost it gets from the non-mimicking state.
- After it's been aggro'd at least once and some time has passed, it has the random chance to dispose of the player its mimicking. The more times it's been aggro'd in this form, the more likely the disposal is. It returns to non-mimicking behavior after the disposal.
- If Mimic is harmed in any way: Other entities, tripmines, etc., it gets forced out of its mimicking form and returns to non-mimicking behavior.
Skin stealing
Whenever Mimic kills a player, no death message will be displayed. A death sound is still played, though. The leaderboard is also updated.
Death
Mimic is vulnerable whenever it mimics a player: Hazards such as tripmines, other enemies, void, etc. can knock Mimic out of a mimicked form (this does not kill permanent mimics). The player’s character will be a regular corpse again, and this corpse can’t be mimicked for the next 30 seconds.
In the case Mimic dies in its mimicking state, it will display unique death messages, where the player’s name is replaced by: “{Player}’s mimic”.
The player name is of the person it mimics: Either within the server, of someone on a friend list, or a dev name.
Whenever it falls into the void, it is teleported towards the spawn point. If a beacon is active, it won’t respawn for this round.
Radar
Mimic does not appear on the enemy radar whenever it is mimicking someone.
However, Mimic does not appear on the player radar either whenever it is mimicking someone.
Death Messages
{Player}’s mimic experienced a skill issue.
{Player}’s mimic is done with mimicking {Player}
Surprise! {Player} was actually a mimic!
Use the death message expected from the source that killed it; The player name is replaced with "{Player}'s mimic".
Mimic - CURSES
Silent takeover
Description
Whenever Mimic kills, there are no more cues.
Behavior
Whenever Mimic kills a player, no death sound is played and the leaderboard isn’t updated either, until the Mimic gets forced out of the mimicking state.
The killed player is forced to spectate the Mimic, until the Mimic dies.
The dead player is unable to chat or communicate, until the Mimic loses the player’s form.
Mimic never appears on any radar anymore, not even when it is in non-mimicking behavior.
Raising Undead
Note
This curse only appears in Party & Party+ lobbies.
This curse DOES work with Silent takeover. The behavior remains the same of both curses. Silent takeover will work on every player, until their mimic dies.
Description
Dead players turn into Mimics.
Behavior
Every time a player dies, their corpse immediately turns into a mimic. If the mimic falls into the void within 10 seconds, it will respawn on a random location without losing its mimicking form.
Whenever these mimics die, they won’t respawn unlike permanent mimics.
Mimic - GREATER CURSES
Hunter instincts
Description
Mimic is done with being nice
Behavior
Mimic’s speed is greatly increased (~1.5x player speed) whenever it is aggro’d.
Whenever mimic is aggro’d and is chasing a player, it will apply anxiety to players.
Anxiety is visualised by the player’s vision becoming darker and blurry the closer they are to an aggro’d mimic. They will also lose walk-/run-speed the closer they are.
Whenever a mimic gets aggro’d and a player is within the half of its detection range, the mimic will let out a roar. The player’s ability gets temporarily disabled, however they will get a temporary adrenaline modifier in return (stacks in solo). The adrenaline modifier lasts less than the ability loss.
If a player is close to a mimic who is mimicking someone, they will hear a faint heartbeat, until far enough away or if the mimic gets aggro’d.
