I made my first album in here

This is my home studio in south Philly.

The album is called Ellipses and I released it a week ago. I'd describe it as ambient/experimental electronic. It took me about 5 years to finish.

If you're interested in hearing it, check out my bandcamp: https://ratangajunction.bandcamp.com/album/ellipses-2

There are some cassette tapes available for purchase there, and it's also streaming everywhere else

Ratanga Junction - Ellipses

I released my debut album on 9/25. It took me five years to record, mix, and master. I'd describe it as ambient/experimental electronic. I'm not sure if all of the tracks are strictly ambient, but they are all primarily concerned with texture and atmosphere.

If you're interested, here's my bandcamp: https://ratangajunction.bandcamp.com/album/ellipses-2

Available are some limited edition cassette tapes, via my label, Zone Bamboo.

If you live in Philadelphia and want a tape, send me a DM and maybe I'll be able to drop it off in your mailbox, so you can avoid shipping fees and I can have an excuse to ride my bike.

There's a very personal aspect of the album that I'd rather not mention here, but there's also a more philosophical side, which might provide some context:

For years I've had this line from Ludwig Wittgenstein stuck in my mind: “The limits of language are the limits of my world”. This idea is the epitome of Logocentricism, which lies at the heart of most western philosophy, and it's a concept that I wanted to use as an antagonist while making the record. Is language the thing that we must value above all else? What sort of world arises from that foundation, and what sort of world could be built on another kind of foundation entirely? This album is my representation of the world that lies beyond  those limits of language.

I made the album with synths, including a Prophet Rev2 (my favorite) and a UDO Super 6, as well as samples. I also got some help from Jarret Gilgore, a brilliant saxophonist/clarinetist and composer who plays on tracks 1 and 4
