« Tibet airlines » becoming « Xizang airlines » in one photo
The official name change occurred in March this year. Some planes of the fleet still don’t have their new painting and therefore still have « Tibet » on them
Qinghai: Local police doesn’t respect national law on foreigners
(This doesn’t apply to prefectures that are explicitly no-go for foreigners)
Since July 1st 2024, hotels can’t refuse foreigners. In Yushu prefecture, small Tibetan-owned hotels still can’t host foreigners. After telling the front desk guy it’s illegal, he called local police chief that confirmed he wasn’t allowed to host me, regardless of law.
I was only able to stay in Han-owned hotel, they have no problem with the police. But this Han-owned one had no more room after my first night, my only option was a Tibetan-owned one.
After arguing 20mn on the phone, giving them every official declarations from the Ministry of Public Security, and threats of legal action, the police accepted that I stay in a hotel that couldn’t normally host foreigners. Without explanations.
网吧/Internet café so expensive, any tips ?
Hi everyone.
I like to play video games but I don’t understand how Internet cafés in China can be so expensive ? The famous 网鱼 chain is around 30元 for two hours, it’s almost twice the price in Europe (except for north of Europe maybe). Also, they don’t offer hours packs that are usable whenever we want, like any other internet café in the world.
Is it just this brand ? Are there any tips to have hours cheaper ?
Also, I still have no way to verify my Tencent account. I get refusals again and again for no clear reason. So if I wanna play LoL or Valorant, I have to buy accounts on Taobao that regularly get banned. Any tips for that too ?
Thank you 🙏
Sony A7C, SD card entry locked
Hello everyone.
I bought a Sony A7C, inserted my SD card and used it for a few months now, transferring pictures through USB.
Tonight, I wanted to change the SD card, but found out the little door to access it is completely locked. The camera didn’t fall violently, everything works perfectly fine except this. Even with tools, it can’t be opened and the SD card can’t be accessed.
Did it happen to someone before ? Have any advice ?
Thank you very much for your time and help 🙏🙏
Music copyrights in bars
When I was working with a bar in Shanghai, as it was my first experience in China, I asked them what was the law regarding the use of music in commercial places. Do they have a contract with a government agency, or private agency ?
They told me no (both Chinese workers and long term China based foreigner), that nobody cares and we can put anything we want in the playlist.
That’s what we did and never had to pay anything for the music to anyone.
Is there a law regarding this ? Is this just generally non applied ? How risky is it for a bar to do this ?
(I am not working with them anymore)
No more chocolate in coffee shops ?
Starbucks still has the 摩卡, but for a few weeks now I saw that both Luckin and Cotti stopped selling anything with chocolate (their chocolate Latte). Is it only in Guangzhou ? Is it a shortage ?
Am I condemned to drop 36¥ at Starbucks now? 😭
