Where did the mastery scale option go on Schoology?

I usually use a former colleague’s tutorial video to set up my Schoology gradebook, but it seems like they took down their website. Therefore, I decided to just copy the gradebook setup from last semester, rather than set it up from square one.

I use EGI, and am used to Schoology generating a “mastery scale” option at a certain point in the set up process. I don’t know what causes it, Schoology is like magic to me. I also have no idea whether or not my usual grading practices will be affected by the lack of this setting. I’d appreciate any insight on how to get it to return and/or the necessity of this mastery scale setting.

First picture is last semester’s gradebook, second is this semester’s.

Jury duty - can admin urge me to postpone until Thanksgiving or winter break?

Hi!

I’m a secondary teacher and was just summoned for jury duty during the first week of the upcoming school year. This is my first time being summoned since I started teaching, so I looked at the employee handbook. It seems like the district’s policy is for staff to work with their direct supervisor to minimize any work disruptions. I wonder if this means my admin will urge me to postpone until a break.

Frankly, I’d have no issue doing jury duty over summer. However, all of my family and all of my spouse’s family live out of state/internationally. We try to visit them over every Thanksgiving and winter break. During spring break, family comes to visit us. I’m sure I don’t really need to justify to you all why I’d prefer to not be on-call for jury duty during these breaks!

I guess I’m just looking for insight into what’s reasonable in terms of minimizing disruptions. That, and any strategies you may have used in the past to balance civic duty, admin expectations, and work-life balance.

Thanks!
