Graduated from UBC Sauder, 2.5 years of accounting experience, want to work at UBC itself. Anyone done this?
Hey, UBC grad here (Sauder BCom, Accounting). I’ve spent the last few years in accounting roles, month-end close, financial reporting, the works, and I’ve been thinking it’d be pretty cool to circle back and actually work at the university.
I know UBC hires staff through Workday (hr.ubc.ca/careers) and there are finance roles scattered across different departments and faculties. But a few things I can’t figure out:
• Is the pay actually livable, or is it noticeably below market?
• Do hiring managers at UBC respond to cold LinkedIn outreach, or is it strictly apply-and-wait?
• Is there a “hidden” internal network where most roles get filled before they even post?
• Any Sauder alumni working in UBC Finance or admin who’d be willing to connect?
Would love to hear from anyone who made this move or knows the inside track.
