The difference a door makes…

My boss is on leave and said I could use her office while she’s gone because she knows I have deadlines approaching.

I’ve been working in her office for two days and have probably been equally as productive as I would have been for 2 weeks in my cube. It’s honestly amazing how much more you can get done without constant disruptions and distractions.

I am dreading going back to my cube and my accompanying inner monologue…

- “Please stop coughing.”

- “Could the leadership meeting really be THAT funny?”

- “No seriously stop with the coughing.”

- “Oh fun, my neighbors are on a Teams meeting… with each other.”

- “ARE you sorry for disturbing me? Because you seem to do it a lot.”

- “For the love of God, the coughing…”

Jeff Goldblum and Arthur Miller

Oddly enough both are/were super tall.

Jeff Goldblum (Jurassic Park, Independence Day, Wicked, all the things) is said to be 6’4’’.

Arthur Miller (playwright of Death of a Salesman, married to Marilyn Monroe) was said to be 6’2.5’’.

Jason Isaacs looks like someone inflated Clinton Kelly

…or Clinton Kelly (What Not to Wear) looks like someone deflated Lucius Malfoy.

I can’t really explain it, but Bear from Obsession reminds me of a young Hugh Dancy, minus some essence of Elliott from E.T.

The snack cabinet

I’m really just venting / seeing how other people feel about this.

I work in an office where morale is low, and one of the reasons morale is low is that we went from 100% telework to 100% in-office work this year.

To help boost morale, I decided to offer snacks to my coworkers. It started as stuff I already had — the chips from the multi-pack that my kids never eat, a bag of mandarins I got BOGO, etc. I set up a cabinet in my cubicle (yes, most of us are in cubes 🤢) and put up a note telling folks to help themselves.

It started as intended… people dropping by, me offering them a snack, them saying “Really!? Are you sure?” and then taking the snack. Yay! Morale boosted.

It has now morphed into… something else.

I recognize that certain snacks (regular Cheetos, Rice Krispie treats, and Slim Jims) are more popular than others. So I’ve started buying those in bulk. Sometimes people bring stuff in to add to the snack cabinet, which is nice. Communal morale boost!

The thing that’s bugging me is…

People now wait until I’m gone and ransack the thing.

I left pretty late last night and came in at my normal time this morning. Almost all the Slim Jims and half the granola bars were gone. It was kind of messy, too… like someone had hastily absconded in shame with handfuls of stuff.

Not looking for advice — I’m not going to change anything. And yes, I know that once you give something away, you have no control over what happens to it. I also know that not everyone loves being friendly in the office.

But it’s gone from something that makes me feel good about myself to something that makes me feel like kind of a dope.

Should I?

Actor Sam Jaeger and Hans of the Southern Isles

I know that Hans is voiced by Santino Fontana but it’s like my brain can’t accept that information. I only picture this guy whenever my kids listen to Love Is an Open Door in the car. So in my head canon, Sam Jaeger has a pretty spectacular voice… but he’s kind of the worst.
