I have a very good friend who is escaping Texas and moving to Brooklyn this summer with his family (wife and two middle-school boys). He's having a going away party soon, and I would like to get him a gift.

I don't really want to get him stuff--they're having to dramatically downsize for the move. Can anyone recommend something they might enjoy along the lines of an experience? More specifically, is there something locals appreciate or enjoy that tourists like me might overlook?

I think they would be open to a wide range of experiences--they are very excited about embracing the local culture and taking their first steps toward becoming New Yorkers. Any suggestions are appreciated.
