The point of these special effects, I think, was to make card arts look even greater. Generally speaking, they do a good job at that, and they're free.

However, the improvements on the arts that these effects make don't feel as special if their going to make paid cosmetics which serve the same purpose of making card arts look better.

It feels bad when they give us this free feature to then invalidate it when some of these cards inevitably get alternate arts that might look even greater, but with a price-tag attached.
