Choose m1 max 32/1TB vs m3 pro 18/512 2026
Hi everyone, I'm a final-year IT student currently using a phan16-72-91rf (i914900HX/32GB/1TB/4060/2.5K screen) and I'm planning to upgrade to a MacBook. I'm torn between two options:
m1 max 14-inch 32GB/1TB and m3 pro 18-inch/512GB in black... My needs are mainly backend development, and I'm not sure if I'll pursue this field in the future. I'll be using a browser, backend coding with Node.js and Next.js... I rarely use Docker, or only a few services. Because if I stop development later, I might use it for entertainment or office work like Word, Excel, etc. So, which option do you think is more suitable for this case? I'm also wondering about the M1 Max because it has 32GB of RAM which works well, but its chip is already 5 years old... On the other hand, the M3 Pro is newer but the RAM is also limited... My needs aren't very demanding, and I have a habit of cleaning up frequently... but I'm worried that 512GB of storage won't be enough :((( Please give me some advice! Thanks
