I’m currently a Product Designer 2 at my org with ~4 years of experience (all at the same company).

Here’s how my time is split right now:

  • 25% design
  • 65% product management + working with the engineering team
  • 10% managing engineering sprints

For my upcoming promotion, I’ve been told I’ll be evaluated more from a PM perspective, since that’s where my role has been shifting. The expectation is that I’ll function more like a Product Manager (not at an associate level).

I’ve also been told I can choose my title, but the actual work will stay similar to what I’m doing now.

I’m trying to figure out what makes the most sense for my career. The options are:

  1. Product Manager – Design
  2. Senior Product Designer
  3. Product Manager
  4. Product Architect

I’m mainly confused between options 1 and 2. I still feel there’s a lot for me to explore in design, and I don’t want to lose that.

Would love to hear your thoughts - what would you suggest in this situation?
