Hi all,
Posting to get some insight/advice if someone that is currently in law school can relate to my dilemma.
Me: Early 30s. Post-grad working in healthcare tech (phenomenal income but not remote and I live in a state I will not be going to school in) with about 10 years of WE. Undergrad GPA. 3.low, but plan on taking the LSAT in August and October to get 170+ to be a splitter. Aiming to attend a T-50, ideally T-14. I’m a pretty strong writer and have already started gathering people for LORs so I feel I can have a well-rounded application to make me competitive.
Dilemma: I’m a solo parent of a toddler who will be three by the time I plan to start law school (Fall 2027). I really want to attend full-time, but that would mean quitting my job and relying on scholarships, loans, summer internships, and government assistance to get through. The restrictions in borrowing limits by this administration makes me even more anxious. I’m prioritizing law schools in states with great benefits for low income parents along with schools that have resources for parenting students. I will be applying to some part-time programs this coming cycle, however that will mean finding a new job in the state I’ll be attending and missing out on so many opportunities. As someone who wants to start off in Big Law, at a firm that does Impact and Public Interest, before pivoting to policy making with potential for public office opportunities as a big picture goal, I fear part-time will limit my ability to network and gain entry sooner rather than later.
Are there current or post-grad law students who attended full-time that can share some personal experience/tips/advice please? Anything will be helpful in trying to make the best decision to a future I can’t fully predict.
Thank you in advance!
