Hello, I wanted to share a poem I wrote last night, as this seems like an appropriate space for it. I don’t have a formal background in sociology, but I’ve noticed that my thinking somewhat aligns with some of the concepts and perspectives.
Opposing the opposition,
narrative being the source;
they debate with emotional conviction while neglecting the use of cognition.
From propaganda to gatekeeping,
Is it “truth” that you are actually seeking?
Echo chambers fulfill your feed, rather than in-depth analysis;
you contemplate on whether the social network has agreed,
Never questioning if what you consume is realistic,
or do you depend on whats easier, the shortcut, a heuristic?
Remember,
Alex Pretti protested, no retaliation and officials killed him,
while the media shifts to performative activism, claiming racism, absolutism…
instrumentalizing the true victim,
It’s collective behavior,
virtue signaling; those consciously aware, more woke, or whose the next savior,
There is a rhythm to this algorithm’s act,
The system prioritizes signals;
leaving out truth or fact,
no one to question what it actually lacked,
Circulating interpretation of misinformation leads to the manipulation,
The perpetrator relying on pretext,
where no one can be held accountable without full context,
It’s inevitable,
you are exposed for priming;
anchoring occurs given the correct timing,
Identity signaling, paralinguistic cues,
you cater to the in-group that confirms your preexisting views,
And so the system maintains its status,
implementing control throughout time and practice,
Chaos in order,
It is on social media where you claim to be a supporter,
you want to be this causation,
but without initiating the act, you’ve become just another voice of polarization,
If this is about what is fair,
why concern yourself with likes, comments, and who will share?
There will always be opposition,
and siding with this and that position,
Let change be what is eventual,
rather than letting a system evoke another emotion that has become perpetual,
This would be an improvement:
applying logic, objective standards, and self-attunement;
collective action; a real social movement.
