Hello there 👋

I wanted to share my situation and see if anyone else had experienced anything similar. I'm also hoping this will get support to reply to my emails, as I've heard nothing from them in the week since I raised this issue with them 🥲

I recently bought a TS5+ with the goal of running my full setup through a single cable. Unfortunately, I’m hitting a "pretty serious" issue where connecting one of my monitors through the dock causes my MacBook to completely freeze and reboot. I’ve also got a secondary issue where USB devices connected via a USB switch aren’t accessible through the dock, but that kinda takes a back seat to the display issue right now 😅

My setup, with the TS5 added in:

  • MacBook Pro (M4 Max)
  • Samsung C34J79x (3440×1440 @ 100Hz via Thunderbolt)
  • Dell P2415Q (4K @ 60Hz via DisplayPort or USB-C → DP)
  • TS5+ (firmware fully updated, all CalDigit utilities installed)

The moment I connect the Dell monitor via the dock (DisplayPort or USB-C → DP), my Mac hard freezes and reboots. Nothing I've tried so far has resolved the issue (more info on what I've tried at the bottom of the post).

At this point I’m trying to understand if this a limitation of the TS5+ with this kind of dual display setup, or if this sounds like a faulty unit? From what I can tell in the docs and manual, my monitor setup should be well within the max bandwidth for the dock.

Would really appreciate any insight from others using similar setups and if anyone from CalDigit is here, I’d love to get this moving as I haven’t heard back from support.

Ty in advance, and sorry for the wall of text!

More info on all the things:

  • Both monitors worked perfectly for years when connected directly to the Mac
  • The Samsung works fine through the dock on it's own
  • The Dell works fine directly to the Mac, with and without the Samsung connected through the dock.
  • But the Dell through the dock consistently crashes the system
  • The only way I can get the Dell working via the dock is HDMI… but that's limited to 30Hz

Troubleshooting I’ve already done:

  • Tried multiple cables (DP + USB-C → DP)
  • Tried different ports on the dock
  • Tried different Thunderbolt ports on the Mac
  • Tried different display configurations and refresh rates
  • Updated all firmware and drivers from CalDigit
