Fought with my mom over buying books today; feeling guilty, but reading is my favorite thing. Has anyone else dealt with unsupportive parents?

Hey y'all,

I’m 18 and an absolute voracious reader. Reading brings me so much genuine joy and peace, and over the last few years, I’ve read over 100+ books. It’s easily one of the best hobbies I’ve ever cultivated, and I really don’t want to lose touch with it.

Today, I got into a pretty big fight with my mom. I wanted to order a new haul of books worth around ₹1k. My mom doesn't encourage my reading habit at all,she thinks buying non-academic books is a waste of time and money, and her stance is that I should only buy books once I start earning my own money.

The thing is, the money I wanted to use today was actually my own saved money that was keeping with her. When I asked for it back to place the order, she refused, which led to a heated argument. I ended up taking my money anyway and placing the order, but now I’m sitting here with a massive knot of guilt in my stomach.

At the end of the day, she’s my mom, and I can kind of see her POV regarding saving money. But at the same time, reading keeps me sane, and it hurts that she sees something so meaningful to me as a useless expense.

I’m feeling really conflicted right now.

  • Has anyone else faced a similar situation with parents who just don't get the point of reading for leisure?
  • How do you balance standing your ground for something you love with avoiding these exhausting fights?

Would love to hear your thoughts or how you dealt with this growing up.

Need show reccomendations for the weekend, please give as many as possible

Post written using chatgpt cuz i was feeling too languid to type:)

Hey everyone! I’m looking for new show recommendations and feeling a bit stuck on what to watch next.

To give you an idea of what I like, my top favorites are:

  • Elite
  • Anatomy of a Scandal
  • The Glory
  • Celebrity
  • The Trunk
  • The Vampire Diaries
  • Bridgerton
  • Sex Education
  • Never Have I Ever
  • Ginny & Georgia

As you can tell, I’m clearly obsessed with a mix of high-stakes teen drama, soapy dark mysteries/thrillers (especially fast-paced K-dramas), and addictive coming-of-age romance/dramedies!

I love messy plotlines, plot twists, rich-people secrets, and strong character dynamics. Anything on Netflix, Prime Video, or HBO/Max works.

What should I binge next? Thanks in advance!
