Based in the UK.

My partner’s mum just had a serious convo with him and said if we don’t do Anand Karaj in the Gurudwara then she’s not coming to the wedding. But then she also said there’re some new rules about gurudwara will not be able to host this ceremony for non-Sikh, so what option do we have really?

We’ve been together for almost 2 years and we are sure that we will get married one day. His family has been very nice to me but recently things kinda shifted a bit, not sure why…

Also I have a question - from what I learned about Sikhism, you are only supposed to have Singh and Kaur as your last name because everyone should be equal and to not have casteism in Sikhism. But yet these days most Sikh will still have their own family surname. So if this is not being followed, then why so strict about the ceremony in the gurudwara?
