50 gallon water heater rheem won't turn on

When I got there, gas was on valve had no heartbeat ,pilot was off, I turned off the gas for a minute, turned it back on, turned dial to pilot and pressed and held it, hit the striker at the same time a few times , pilot lit long enough to turn on the valve heartbeat, but immediately pilot turned off and heartbeat turned on, just solid red no blinking, now I can't get the pilot to light, I see the striker striking but no flame, any help is greatly appreciated

Picture is not the unit I'm working on now but it has the same setup, no reset button visible
