Legal issues with usage of artwork

Hi, I wanted to create a papercraft template related to Dr Stone. The thing is for the texture I've to use parts of screenshots of the anime.

Like for example, I want to create the laboratory's papercraft, I will take a screenshot, use the front part of that lab and paste it onto the front of the 3d model. These pictures are not 100% straight, they can be of any perspective. I will use Photoshop to extract the required part and modify them for my usage.

I've no intention to sell these. Anyway selling these would require legal efforts involving royalties and it's not even sure that they will agree with it. My papercraft will be a fanart, available for free. So, as I am using direct anime screenshots but making the papercraft a 'free fanart' thing will I be facing any legal issues?

IRNSS 1-G Satellite (NAVIC) Papercraft by ISRO

So, here's my second post here as said earlier in the Astrosat Papercraft post. IRNSS 1-G is the other one of the two papercraft templates officially released by ISRO. (Link for the template)

Here's my feedback for this paper model template:

  1. Just like the Astrosat model, this one is also beginner friendly.
  2. Repeating the same thing about labelling over the model designs: While this model might be made with the intention to be an explainer model itself, I prefer the design to be just like the original satellite was: without the texts on it ("Solar Panel", "Yoke", names on the top components). Still that's not much of an issue. I think most people would prefer it. These texts will also actually help the beginners to know where to stick the parts of the model.
  3. I found out that the stand has a bit of miscalculations which is why that long bar like thing where the satellite gets attached, is bigger than the size they planned to make it. It doesnt fit into the hole of the base, you have to cut a bigger hole in the base to fit it.
  4. Same feedback on the solar panels, although better than the Astrosat model, the way they are designed they are bound to bend.

Astrosat Papercraft by ISRO

I made this Astrosat Papercraft whose template is officially available on the ISRO Website(Link for the template)

I make papercrafts often so here's my feedback for this paper model template:

  1. The model is beginner friendly and easy to make. Satellites having a complex design such as this cannot be converted into an 'as is' paper scale model, which is why they just converted the front elements into a 2D design, reducing the complexity.
  2. While this model might be made with the intention to be an explainer model itself, I prefer the design to be just like the original model was: without the texts on the model ("Solar Panel", "Yoke", names on the top components). Still that's not much of an issue. I think most people would prefer it. These texts will also actually help the beginners to know where to stick the parts of the model.
  3. The tabs are not present for the UVIT and SXT Telescopes to be attached to the base model. I mean you can still stick them with glue by gluing the circumference of the cylinder and then attaching it to the base. But adding tabs to them would have been a good choice to offer better stability.
  4. The solar panels could have been designed in a better way. The way its currently designed, the panels will always bend towards bottom and have that slant look. It requires reinforcements. If I were to design that one I would have made a big cylinder that passes through the base model, and the panels would be attached to the both ends. The same issue is faced with their other model (IRNSS 1G satellite), I will be posting that model as well after sometime.

I am happy that ISRO puts out such things. They have resources for people/students to learn, and fun activity resources like this one. Currently they have only 2 paper models: Astrosat and IRNSS 1G. They do not have any templates of their launchers. But fortunately, there's a paper modelling enthusiast in the west who is into rocket launchers (and more). His brand name is AXM Paper Scale Models and here is his website's link. Here you can find templates for PSLV, GSLV, RLV launchers. Coming back to ISRO, they made these templates long back. Not sure if they are going to make more, but I would be happy if they do. From my experience of papercrafting, I am thinking to design my own models as well. I will share them here when I make them.
