Jeff Russo Citadel Season 2 soundtrack
Hey everyone, I'm a big fan of Russo, one of the most interesting and exciting composers working today. I noticed he did the score for the second season of Amazon's show 'Citadel', a show I never watched because it got slated. Alex Belcher did the first season, and the Russo Brothers allegedly reshot and tore up most of the first season before it premiered, and the second season has a very different feel to the first (think heists and lots of night-time shooting), but sadly, still makes little sense and is generally pretty bad from a script and plot point of view (though the actors, particularly the newcomers Jack Reynor, Lina El Arabi, and Matt Berry are really good fun in a dull, joyless spy world - how do you write a spy drama so badly...?)
Anyways, Jeff Russo absolutely kicks ass with his soundtrack. I love its' attitude, melancholy, and drama to bits, and because I have it on repeat, I decided to watch the show. First season, not bad, makes no sense, characters make no sense, best that can be said is that it's all pretty slick and fast. Second season, good actor additions, but nothing makes any sense still. APART from Russo's score, ha, ha, which is lovely to hear throughout the season, and really highlights certain parts of the series, notably a heist sequence.
There are five long tracks on this soundtrack (7mins, 8 mins, 9mins, 10mins and 11mins), all of which are stellar, and other notable tracks are track 15 Champagne Taste, a lovely piano piece with track 6, and a peaceful, strings-based closing track, easing us out of the season (and probably closing the chapter on all things Citadel, as I cannot see anything else ever being made now contractual needs have been serviced, the money has been wasted and the Russo Brothers are back in the arms of Marvel for a few years).
