Has anyone done medical tourism for a fistulotomy?
I'm an American (33M), and I lost my insurance literally the week after I had a seton placed. Because of the whirlwind of losing my job and a fistula surgery within a week of each other, as well as the ridiculous price of of COBRA coverage, I missed that there was only a 60-day window to get on a marketplace insurance plan, so now I'm without coverage until the next calendar year, and no colorectal specialists in the area take Medicaid.
The specialist I visited quoted me ~$5000 out-of-pocket for a fistulotomy, and I’m still waiting on a more formal quote from the billing specialist because I have a feeling he’s majorly underestimating. I’m thinking there’s no possible way that’s less expensive than flying somewhere (I have tons of airline miles) that doesn’t have a dystopian healthcare system and getting the surgery there, but I have no idea where to even start my research.
Has anyone here gone the medical tourism route? Where do I even start? What countries do I look at? Any advice or suggestions are immensely appreciated.
