Surrounded by English professionals my whole life, but I had to learn it all alone. Is it just me?

Hi everyone! I want to share my story and ask if anyone else has experienced something similar. I’ve been trying to learn English my whole life, but sometimes it feels like a bad joke.

Here is how my journey went:

  • School: Our teachers changed constantly, and everyone taught in their own weird way. The crazy part? Sometimes, when we checked the test answers, we realized that our teachers were making about 30% mistakes themselves!
  • University: I hoped for real progress there, but for some reason, the university program started almost from the alphabet again.
  • The absolute worst part (Family): This is what I don't understand the most. I have relatives who work as high-level translators in international companies and professional tutors. But over the years, all my requests to help me practice were completely ignored.
  • Relationships: By coincidence, a couple of my romantic partners were English professionals and teachers. You’d think this is a jackpot for a learner, right? Nope. Over several years together, one girl said exactly two phrases to me in English. Another one tried to teach me, but it never went further than a few 15-minute lessons.

Despite having so many professionals in my inner circle, I had to pay for private courses, speaking clubs, English breakfasts, and everything else just to get some practice.

Thank heavens for AI tools today! At least I don't have to beg an AI to talk to me in English.

My main question for this community: What is this? Is it just me? Why is it that the people closest to you, who are experts and could easily help, just don't? I’ve carried this question with me for years and would love to hear your thoughts.
