I made a small tool to find Hongdae cafés Koreans actually talk about — not just Google Maps picks

I’m testing a small idea for people planning trips to Korea.

Most travelers use Google Maps, but a lot of Koreans still discover cafés, restaurants, and local spots through Naver blogs and local search. That information is hard to access if you don’t read Korean.

So I made a very early MVP that ranks Hongdae cafés using Korean local web signals such as:

  • Korean Naver blog mentions
  • recent 30-day activity
  • unique blog authors
  • sudden mention spikes
  • Google Maps links for travelers
  • Instagram links only when a direct profile is available

This is not an official Naver ranking and it is not affiliated with Naver. It’s just an experiment to see if Korean local search signals can be useful for foreign travelers.

I’d really appreciate honest feedback:

  1. Would this help you choose cafés in Hongdae?
  2. Would you trust this kind of ranking?
  3. What information feels missing?
  4. What should I add next — restaurants, bars, Seongsu, Myeongdong, or Busan?

Critical feedback is very welcome. I’m trying not to build this in a bubble.
