So i bought a nee bass (cort gb74) and running it into audio interface its too quiet. Changed the battery and in shop on an amp it was fine. Only way to get a solid level is to crank up gain to max on my Steinberg UR22C at wla point where there is soo much hiss.

Im wondering can i buy a cheap dist pedal and just use gain without drive as a sort of preamp or should i just cash in on a preamp?
