Retro color palettes have a completely different personality compared to modern UI palettes

I’ve been exploring a lot of retro-inspired color palettes recently and it’s interesting how different they feel compared to the ultra-clean modern palettes we usually see today.

A lot of modern UI colors feel very safe and minimal, while retro palettes have more personality and emotion even when the combinations are slightly imperfect. The warmer tones, muted oranges, vintage greens, faded blues, and cream backgrounds somehow make designs feel more memorable.

I’m starting to understand why so many indie projects and creative websites are bringing retro-inspired palettes back into modern UI.

Do you think retro palettes work well for modern digital products, or do they only fit niche/creative projects?
