I’m new to all of this, so bear with me. Around August 2027, my friend and I are most likely moving down to Queens for college since we both have spots at schools there. I’ll be 19, and my friend will be 18 when we move there.
I’m already saving money since I’m currently working. My goal is to save around $10,000, and because I still live with my parents, I don’t have many expenses to pay for. My mother is mainly focused on helping me save, so most of my paychecks go straight into savings. My friend is saving around $5,000 for a deposit, and if that’s not enough, we’ll dip into the $10,000.
What I’m trying to ask is can anyone give me advice? Specifically on moving, what finances will realistically look like, tips for living in NYC, and what to expect overall. I’m feeling pretty lost in this process since it’ll be my first time moving out and really dealing with budgeting and planning money on my own. So far, I’ve gotten a decent grasp on things, but any extra tips would really help. Thank you guys!
