Jerusalem artichokes/Sunchokes are sick, what could be causing it? How do I treat it?

Hi, I have a bunch of Jerusalem artichokes/Sunchokes, and they are browning on the leaf edges. Last year was my first year with this batch, and this issue gets really bad, the leaves brown from the outside in, and then fall off until a once healthy plant is almost bare. I was working under the possibility that it was a fungus last year, and pruned the infected leaves as well as using a copper antifungal. I don't think the antifungal did anything to help, but taking off infected leaves did seem to slow the spread.

The plants are outdoors, get decent light, probably 6-8 hours a day. I am in the Denver area of Colorado, so there is not much humidity. Water may be an issue, I have chronic health issues and am not always consistent with watering, it's actually one of the reasons I planted them, as sunchokes are supposed to be drought tolerant. They are in planters, and good, well drained potting soil, because I didn't want them taking over the yard.

Thanks for your help, and feel free to ask for more information.
