Dithering away the weekend
spent the last couple of days working on a new kind of image dithering algorithm (RGB and greyscale). At first for an EP cover, then just ran away with it
Most of the shots are of NY/HK/London over the years. The others are from random web sources or art (James Webb/Artemis II NASA missions, ephemera from blogs, a random Ivan Shishkin painting)
In technobabble this means it extends Atkinson dithering by adding a 'reservoir', or saving all quantization errors to use in more precise diffusion instead of immediately discarding the portion as in the normal algo's behavior. It's meant to sharpen transitions between tonally different bits of an image and soften the dither in contiguous areas so they're flatter, more regularized, hopefully more organic-looking
