hi everyone. so i just got this text and i’m not sure what to do. the email that texted me is definitely not mine, but they “identified” themselves using my name. my name is extremely rare, as in, i’ve only met one other in my entire life. does this count as identity theft? what do i do?

by the way, i would never ask this. the friend mentioned here has a restraining order against their parents.

i covered my name, my friend’s name, and the school i go to for privacy. both names and the school used were spelled correctly and the school is the one i currently attend. also weird that they didn’t use capitalization, as i turned the capitalization feature off on my phone YEARS ago and don’t see a need to turn it on now lol.
