Switching from Arch to Fedora? Best way to not destroy my system
Hello everyone,
I hope this is the right place to ask, I have been using Linux for a long time now and have been basically using Arch from the beginning. My main PC setup uses Arch and my Laptop uses Debian for stability.
Although nothing is broken in my current system. it feels as if this now 4-5 year old system has dead packages and dependencies and whatnot, so i was thinking of switching to Fedora. However there's a few things i would like to know:
- Can i expect to have no problems with packages, even if they are somewhat obscure (I have used OpenSuse years ago and had nothing but problems finding packages for what i need)
- Can i expect all my software and virtual machines to run flawlessly (For example i am using Winboat and KDE Plasma 6)
- Developing itself should be no problem at all for my usual programming languages i believe, but how are python packages handled
- What is the best way to have all my programs, packages and configs copied over without having to Setup everything anew, and without having previous dead files from my arch install.
Ideally, i would like to basically have my computer work exactly the same just that it is now Fedora for a bit more stability while still being somewhat on the cutting edge. I am using AMD CPU and GPU so that should be no problem either. My Home partition is not separate from the rest.
Thanks to everyone, who can help me! If i am missing information, please do let me know and i can provide that! I do not know how to best handle this without weeks of effort or transferring old broken things using rsync.
