Decided I want to go into project management since I realized (believe) I have a lot of transferable experience and natural talent as well, others have actually suggested this for me. In previous roles, though it was not my title I have assisted on projects with sales and retention objectives, analyzed the campaign for trends and was responsible for any improvements I made to that campaign and had to justify my case for why the change was necessary and show later proof of increased sales/retention directly as a result of my specific change in the campaign. The other part was customer facing. 2-3 years of this.
Im going to pass the CAPM soon (I know I will) and while I’m preparing for my test I’m looking around and it seems more and more like this certification might be a bit useless?
I have some personal connections with program managers and a director that may be able to guide me but wondering where to really go after this beyond just applying so I can put myself ahead of the competition. As is what’s suggested, I do intend to start off as a PC/APM/JrPM etc but wondering if tailoring my CV + CAPM is really all there’s needed. Might creating a LinkedIn or asking for referrals from my other PM connections help? New to this, all input is welcome. Thanks.
