Hi there!
This may sound a little silly but sometimes you have to bare it all and do things that may come off ridiculous to others when a once in a lifetime opportunity presents itself…After nearly 3 years of life & the universe kicking my ass with a series of unfortunate events, my oldest friend of 24 years offered me a lifeline to come stay with her in NYC for the foreseeable future. I drove my car cross country with my basset hound & what were the necessary belongings I needed to survive but also took up as little space as possible.
During the 7 day drive it occurred to me that on-top of a safe place to stay with my oldest friend is by pure happenstance I will being living in a place that millions of people have moved to specifically to try and make their dreams come true! I am someone who has had lifelong dreams that would require a move to L.A. or NYC but it never crossed my mind to go and chase those. But now living in NYC by happenstance, so why not shoot my shot while I am here?
There is a short list of things I want to try for fun such as writing a short stand up comedy set at an open mic but I have been an avid writer since I was an adolescent. A life long dream of mine that I have spoked about since I was a child is to write on at least one episode of Law & Order: SVU. Just for extra context, a brief background in regards to my experience as a writer began at 8 years old writing short stories, completed my first novel at 10 years old, I am a published author and have dove into script writing. Over the past decade+ I attended and volunteered at several writer’s conferences, edited both academic and working fictional works, put together & led local writing workshops. This is all off the top of my head, so I know there is more on that list.
Does anyone have any advice on steps to take, places to go, people to try and contact to at the very least make an honest attempt to make this dream come true while I am blessed with this opportunity of being in New York? Or recommendations on how to become a WAG member?
