Was in an armed self defense gun battle at my residence.
LOCATION Missouri
2 years ago I was in a gun battle at my home. Exchanged gunfire with 2 gunmen. They fired first on me and I returned. If you want to know the details I made a post about it in home defense just check my post history.
I was never detained or charged or had weapons seized or anything. I have not spoken to any police or detectives or anything since the night it happened. I have never been contacted by an attorney or anything. The cops told me it was textbook self defense, good job, “you have a cool story now” and left.
All I have is a police report and footage of it from multiple ring cameras at my house and photos of my shot up house including my child’s room. But I’ve never publicly posted anything other than a few photos.
How safe am I to talk about it openly possibly in public?
I’ve been really wanting to get vocal about crime in the area and self defense. The City Prosecutor here is talking about bringing back a duty to retreat. (I understand there is no duty to retreat inside your home) As someone who has actually been in a self defense shooting I feel like I have a very powerful story that can be used for good and for educational purposes.
My only concern is that if I make a lot of noise (with videos I know I will go viral if ever posted them) I might piss someone off that has the power to possibly get me in trouble for anything at all like discharging a firearm in public or something. Has enough time gone by where I’m completely fine?
I guess my overall question is if I talk about this and it goes viral or something can I be charged with anything (I did nothing wrong of course) or is it just something I should be thankful that nothing ever came of it? And never really talk about it.
