Hi everyone,

Looking for honest perspectives from anyone who has been through something similar or knows someone who has.

Without going into too much detail, I failed a promotion period in second year due to two course failures, both of which were non-content pass/fail requirements rather than core academic failures. My academic record is otherwise strong, with above average grades consistently throughout first and second year and positive clinical evaluations.

The promotions committee has decided that I will be required to repeat the promotion period and will be entering clerkship a year later than my original cohort.

Honestly feeling very demoralized and worried about what this means for my future career. Realistically, has anyone navigated a repeat year and gone on to match successfully? What did the process look like? How did you address it in applications and interviews? Is it as damaging as it feels right now? For context, I am interested in Internal Medicine and Neurology.

Please be kind 😞
