Long story but I‘ll try to be concise here!

My mom is 70 years old with Ejection Fraction Heart Failure (22%). I have slowly watched her decline over the last year, assuming she had dementia. It started with just being forgetful, then progressed into not being able to care for herself or the home, mobility issues, swollen legs and purple feet, with sores all over. She has no ability to retain new information (sometimes bits and pieces if the info has been repeated 10+ times), and zero short term memory.

She’s been in the hospital for 7 weeks due to these issues where they discovered her poor EF, she’s on medication and will hopefully get a pacemaker, possibly an ablation.

Her mobility is better so as far as I know they are planning on sending her home (even though we all know she needs assisted living!!). She presents well for about 10 minutes, can hold a conversation a bit, has a sense of humour still, etc. She’s passing a lot of assessments because of this so she’s probably barely going to have support at home and its insane!!
Oh - and she lives alone in a 3 level house full of stairs. and I just had a baby so I’m incapable of being her caretaker.

Anyway, what are the chances of any improvement here? They’re letting HER decide if she wants the pacemaker and ablation which is absolutely insane, but if she gets the procedures I’m just curious if anyone has seen cognitive improvements in their parents/grandparents who have been in a similar situation.
