Signed up for the 2027 Memorial Hermann FULL IRONMAN Texas
Wanting to hear some input: Is a 70.3 in December worth it to get ready for the full in april?
That puts it approximately 4 months before my Full in April. I'm a total beginner. (I did a lot of weightlifting but not much cardio), especially in open water and on the outdoor bike I've only had my real bike for a few weeks.
I also wanted input on traveling since the 70.3 would be out of state. Would it be recommended to rent a bike or worth it to ship the bike with you?
My background: Male 22
- Complete beginner ~2 months into structured triathlon training
- Goal race: Full IRONMAN Texas, April 2027
- Training ~7 hrs/week (right now)
Feel free to ask more about my training or to recommend changes to my training, mostly using AI to lay training all out and lots of research for drills and what training should look like and such, but I am not against getting a coach; I just think it would be cool to self-coach since I am very disciplined with training.
Swim: Started from near zero. Month 1 was drills and 100 yd sets. Now in month 2, doing 1,600–2,100m sessions with structured intervals. The longest without stoping was 1150 m.
Bike: Started on gym stationary bike. Just got my first real outdoor bike and have done a few outdoor rides (COTA, ~17miles). Still figuring it out and trying to do more outdoor rides.
Run: 2 miles @ 7:45/mi base fitness, building aerobic volume. Currently doing 55–85 min long runs at Z2. Dealing with some IT band/knee issues, managing it with stretching.
Completed so far (Month 2 highlights):
- Brick sessions every Tuesday (bike 75–90 min + run 15–25 min)
- Longest bike: 30 miles
- Longest swim: 2,100m
- Longest run: 85 min
