Recreating the Anfibio sofa by Alessandro Becchi: Impossible, dumb or doable?
So as the title states I've been thinking about recreating the Anfibio sofa by Alessandro Becchi.
It would be my first real upholstery project and maybe too much to handle but I have friends and relatives who have the tools and way better knowhow than me. I am handy but not experienced.
The reason for trying this is simply the price, at ~14k€ there is no way that I'd be able to afford it but I really am obsessed with it. There doesn't even seem to be good dupes at reasonable prices.
The seat/mattress part seems simple enough. My plan is to use high density foam >40kg/m^3 on the firm side and top it with a layer or softer foam on the sleeping side. then wrap the whole thing in batting.
The backrest and frame are where I am unsure. It appears to be mostly high desnisty foam but the joint part is possibly filled with shredded foam or some other type of fiber to allow it to bend freely.
Other thing I'm unsure about is how does the frame work. are the two sides joint with a hinge or are they only held together by the fabric? I would suspect there is some sort of multi jointed hinge but I have no idea.
Anyways I know this is a big project to take on, especially as my first real project but I'm a bit delusional and willing to put a lot of sweat into this project. I would love to hear any ideas, opinions, tips or anything that might be helpful.
