Hey everyone, I’m writing 3A1 very soon and just wanted to hear any last minute tips or advice from anyone who wrote the exam somewhat recently. I’d appreciate any responses on what I can expect to encounter on the test. Is thermodynamics basics more so theory or calculation questions where you plug in values into the formula ?

According to a practicum information document from my program, students who defer their placement statistically don’t end up securing a paid role. The document notes that many companies utilize student funding grants that require the student to return to full-time studies immediately after the work term. If you've already completed your coursework and are just doing the deferred practicum to graduate, you wouldn't meet that requirement.
Has anyone been in this scenario before? Do most companies strictly stick to these funding criteria, or do they still hire deferred students for paid spots anyway? It’d be silly if one ended up in the same position of not finding a paid opportunity their second year as well despite having more operating experience and their fourth class ticket already.

I’m seeing people land solid placements with literally just grocery store or retail experience on their resume. Meanwhile, guys who actually have some industrial/mechanical backgrounds are getting fewer interviews—or they get called in, do well in the interview, and still get passed over for the retail kid.
For the operators and Chiefs on here: what is the actual reality? Do plants just prefer a blank slate they can train from scratch, or is HR just prioritizing soft skills and resume keywords over actual technical background?
